Bookshare
Bookshare is a digital database which offers foreign language literature (mostly English) in Braille and synthetic speech for blind and visually impaired people. We facilitate the access to the US-American reading platform Bookshare for patrons of DZB. In order to use Bookshare, proof of visual disability is necessary. As part of our cooperation, we undertake the binding confirmation of visual disability for our patrons.
The annual royalty amounts to USD 50. Furthermore, a non-recurring registration fee of USD 25 is due. After the payment of these fees to Bookshare (only possible with credit card), all internationally accessible texts (ca. 36.000 titles) are available to the patron. Up to 100 texts may be downloaded per month. At www.bookshare.org/readingTools, a number of different free decoding options may be downloaded.
This service is available to patrons of DZB only.

If you are interested, but not yet a patron at DZB Leipzig, you may register here for free: Registration for borrowing talking book or Registration for borrowing Braille books. The registration at Bookshare has to take place additionally. As soon as we have received your proof of visual disability, we will send confirmation of the visual disability to Booskhare.
Registration for Bookshare
The registration takes place at Bookshare directly at www.bookshare.org/signUpType. After entering your personal data, you have to accept the general terms and conditions. After having completed the process of registration, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. In this e-mail, you will find a link for creating a password and you will also receive the information for payment.
If we have received your proof of visual disability already, we will send a confirmation of visual disability to Bookshare shortly after. You will receive a copy of this e-mail.
